GOALS:
.... while radio is an expressive art. Teens will learn a variety of new skills:
THE RADIO TEEN TALK CREW: Over 30 teens are a part of the Radio Teen Talk show crew. All teens are supervised by adults. All positions are held by teens. The crew consists of hosts, engineers, show producers, researchers, phone operators and teens who participate in the discussion. Each participant must have parental consent. THE DISCUSSIONS: Teens meet on Mondays and Thursdays for their discussions. Each week over 30 teens from all school district within Southwest Mississippi gather to discuss topics that are interesting to teens. The topics are selected by teens and approved by the Foundation staff. Topics address teen issues as well as community issues involving teens. This segment of our show is the fun part. Teens get the opportunity to express themselves without being judged or treated as children. They enjoy the teen atmosphere and being able to express themselves on sensitive topic that cannot be discussed at home. THE SHOW: On Tuesday, the hosts of the radio show meet at the radio station to rehearse script, make changes and run through the script. On Wednesday, it's showtime. The hosts and production team, consisting of teens, meet for live airing at 4:00 PM to 4:30 PM each Wednesday. Phone calls are received and each hosts gets the opportunity to speak and interact with their peers. To hear their live discussions, go to Radio Teen Talk audio files. If you have comments on the topics, please go to the Radio Teen Talk messageboard.
